    A Veteran's Path From Homelessness to Hope

    Today we also recognize Pearl Harbor Day. Read President Obama's speech commemorating the 70th anniversary of this momentous event. Tim Burford Timothy Burford served in the U.S. Army for several years as a Humvee mechanic and eventually found himself deployed to the Iraq War. After suffering a life-threatening episode of heat exhaustion, he received an honorable medical discharge. The father of two young children, Tim was unable to find a job related to his military work experience.

    A Steep Climb

    Will Rivera-Fantauzzi was shorter than many of the other boys in school. But he decided to make up for it in toughness and by working hard. He carried that same individual fortitude to U.S. Navy boot camp, where one of the instructors spied leadership potential in him and made Will the leader of a cafeteria serving line over several other recruits.
