Opening Doors to Unforeseen Career Paths

By Tom Liszka

DerrickGuyWelcome to the first edition of our Faces of Workforce Development Showcase. Today’s feature comes from Derrick Guy, IT-Ready Fall 2016 graduate from Minneapolis, MN.

In case you missed our preview blog, you can check it out here.

“Getting into the IT-Ready program and becoming CompTIA + certified has opened doors to a career path I had no idea I would be taking. I was previously in construction, but suffered a wrist injury that had put me out of that line of work. Not having any experience with anything else but hands on labor type of work and no real job security, I was in a bad place, needing to support three kids and my wife in school.

“In two months, I accomplished what would have taken me a year or two to achieve otherwise. It [IT-Ready] has really given me a big confidence boost to reach new heights and succeed at new goals.

“So, yes, IT-Ready has impacted me in a major way. Much thanks and appreciation to all who made this possible.”

For the next installment of our showcase, we’ll find out how confidence and a willingness to learn can lead to success in IT.
