IT-Ready Minneapolis / St. Paul Employer Breakfast Recap

Breakfast_blogDependable. Hard-working. Dedicated.

These were a few of the adjectives that Twin Cities employers used to describe the IT-Ready graduates they have hired since the program debuted in 2012.

More than two dozen employers and partner organizations joined Creating IT Futures for the first ever IT-Ready Minneapolis / St. Paul Employer Breakfast, held at Pearson VUE headquarters in Bloomington, MN, co-hosted by Virteva.

Vicki Greene, VP of Operations for GED Testing Service, and Rachel Wittrock, HR Manager for Virteva, each spoke to the larger group about the partnership that has brought strong employees to their respective companies.

“IT-Ready has given us another great source for workers who can help our company be successful,” Greene said.

“We’re delighted to have partnered with IT-Ready and look forward to continuing the partnership,” said Wittrock.

IT-Ready Graduate Phao Thor shared his experience attending the 8-week program in Fall 2012 while still working nights loading packages for UPS.

“Those were the longest eight weeks of my life,” Thor confessed. “However, I graduated, passed my CompTIA A+ certification, and obtained an amazing job doing what I love: helping people solve their technology problems.” Thor currently works full-time on the Level 1 Support Desk for Pearson VUE.

Also sharing her experience was Azeem Begum, a Systems Product Support Analyst for the GED Testing Service for the past two years. Before enrolling in IT-Ready for the program’s inaugural class, she had been laid off from her job in the insurance industry.

It took a program like IT-Ready to give her a new direction.

“Now I love my job and believe I have a bright future ahead of me in IT,” she said.
