CompTIA Funding 10 Additional FUSE Studios for STEAM Education in Schools

Downers Grove, Ill. — Helping to fund an additional 10 schools with STEAM education, CompTIA is expanding its partnership with the FUSE program at Northwestern University.

In 2017 as part of its NextUp initiative to interest teens in tech careers, CompTIA partnered with FUSE to bring FUSE Studios to 23 middle schools and high schools. This year, with additional funding and support from CompTIA and its tech workforce charity, Creating IT Futures, another 10 schools can receive FUSE Studio grants. Schools who wish to host a FUSE Studio must apply by March 4 at https://www.fusestudio.net/comptia-2018.

“NextUp aims at inspiring teens to learn about tech careers through interactive projects that are driven by the student’s interest,” said Charles Eaton, executive vice president, social innovation, CompTIA. “We’re offering teens a diverse set of entry points to learn about tech, and FUSE fits perfectly within that outreach, as it lets the kids choose what they want to learn.”

FUSE is a STEAM (STEM plus Arts) education program that facilitates student exploration and learning through hands-on, interest-driven challenges inspired by real-world STEM and design practices. In FUSE, students work in a studio-like environment, learn through making, and develop 21st century skills such as problem solving, persistence and communication.

More than 140 schools nationwide reaching more than 10,000 students each year have FUSE Studios. In 2017, CompTIA’s funding of 23 additional with FUSE Studios spread STEAM education to more than 3,000 students.

“Creating IT Futures continues to be an exemplary partner for FUSE. In our partnership, we are not only working together to bring the FUSE experience to more deserving young people in schools around the country, but we are also providing an image of a new way for universities and industry to work together,” said Reed Stevens, FUSE founder and director as well as professor of learning sciences at Northwestern University.
