    TechGirlz Offers Free Computer Classes to Chicago Middle School Girls

    TechGirlz, with funding from CompTIA’s NextUp campaign to interest teens in tech careers, is offering its first computer classes in Chicago this May to middle school girls. Both classes will be offered at Studio Xfinity, 901 W. Weed Street in Chicago. Girls in grades 6-9 can sign up for either event at http://www.techgirlz.org/techshopz/

    Creating IT Futures, Minneapolis Urban League and City of Minneapolis Bring IT-Ready Career Program Downtown

    This summer Creating IT FuturesMinneapolis Urban League and the City of Minneapolis are offering the award-winning IT-Ready career program in downtown Minneapolis. IT-Ready trains and certifies information technology (IT) workers and helps place them into their first paid IT role. IT-Ready is part of the City of Minneapolis’ MSP TechHire initiative. To close the workforce skills gap in the high-tech economy, the MSP TechHire initiative enables diverse workers to access training, support and tech jobs across the Greater Minneapolis Region.

    21 Schools Selected for New FUSE Studios with CompTIA-Funded Tech Activities for Students

    As part of its NextUp initiative to interest teens in tech careers, CompTIA has partnered with FUSE at Northwestern University to equip 21 schools in nine states each with an interactive FUSE Studio. Each studio allows dozens or even hundreds of students to dive into challenging, self-directed projects ranging from using SketchUp to design their dream home to using a 3D printer to make jewelry to building their own solar-powered mini-car. CompTIA and FUSE also will collaborate to build three IT-focused challenges designed to expose youth to various IT professions and career pathways in fun and engaging ways.

    CompTIA Partners with TechGirlz to Help Reduce Gender Gap in Tech

    As part of its NextUp initiative to interest teens in tech careers, CompTIA is partnering with TechGirlz to reduce the gender gap in technology occupations. With the help of CompTIA’s $125,000 donation to TechGirlz, the non-profit will hire a Chicago-based outreach coordinator to reach more girls in Chicago.

    Creating IT Futures announced today the availability for download and purchase of the first book by its CEO, Charles Eaton. The book, “How to Launch Your Teen’s Career in Technology: A Parent’s Guide to the T in STEM Education,” is part of CompTIA’s NextUp initiative to interest teens in tech careers. NextUp is funded by CompTIA and managed by Creating IT Futures.

    Atomic Data Becomes a Platinum Mission Investor of Creating IT Futures to Support Tech Workforce Development in Minnesota

    To support tech workforce development in Minnesota, Atomic Data signed on as the first Platinum Mission Investor for Creating IT Futures. Atomic Data has been an employment partner with Creating IT Futures’ IT-Ready career program since 2013, having already hired nine IT-Ready graduates to diversify and expand its workforce.

CompTIA is recruiting its members and certified IT professionals to work with the Academy’s Hack Your Health curriculum, which helps students discover how tech know-how can be connected to an interest in health and fitness.
