IT-Ready Alumni Update

Sometimes it really is okay to relax.

After completing classes, becoming CompTIA A+ certified, interviewing with employers, and finally entering the workforce as professional IT workers, the Minneapolis / St. Paul IT-Ready alumni welcomed the chance to let their hair down a bit at the first alumni networking events held in their cities.

About 30 IT-Ready Minneapolis / St. Paul Alumni gathered at Cooper’s Pub in Minneapolis on August 7 to network with one another and several employer representatives. Christy Buss, an IT manager at HealthPartners, spoke to the group about her own career path in information technology and how she felt good about working with IT-Ready to place several graduates at her company. One of those IT-Ready graduates, Brant Backes, told his story about moving from unemployment in the manufacturing field to a new future in IT, where just a year into his job at HealthPartners he is already earning a higher salary than he ever earned on the factory floor.

Creating IT Futures Foundation CEO Charles Eaton expressed how gratifying it is to see graduates of the program in both cities succeed.

“This is just a thrill to see, less than 18 months after starting our first classes, the results of everyone’s hard work,” said Eaton. “I think we’ve already succeeded far more than we could have dared to hope.”

Eaton thanked the more than a dozen employers who have extended apprenticeship and job opportunities to the graduates in both cities.

Said Eaton: “What you’ve done is given people a foothold in a whole new career — a career that gives them upward mobility while making your own companies stronger. I think we can all expect even more cause to celebrate moving forward.”
