IT-Ready celebrates a long-lasting footprint

Tom Liszka

Mentioned at nearly every IT-Ready graduation is how students connected with each other and became stronger together. Late last month, more than 150 IT-Ready alumni, employees and partners came out to celebrate the success of the tech career training program in Minneapolis / St. Paul.

“The IT-Ready Alumni Celebration is one of my favorite events of the year,” said Sue Wallace, executive director, Minneapolis. It is an evening to showcase how the success of the program is really the culmination of each alumni’s individual successes.

Students from IT-Ready’s current class got a chance to network with alumni and hear how they got through the curriculum and passed their CompTIA A+ certification exams.

“Our current class benefited from seeing first-hand what is in store for them when they graduate,” said Kathy Brennan, senior manager of IT-Ready Minneapolis / St. Paul. “They talked with the alumni about the exam, job opportunities, interviewing, and left with a renewed sense of confidence that this will all be a reality for them shortly.

To support tech workforce development in Minnesota, earlier this year, Atomic Data signed on as the first Platinum Mission Investor for Creating IT Futures. The company has been an employment partner with Creating IT Futures since 2013, having already hired nine IT-Ready graduates to diversify and expand its workforce. They were also a sponsor of the event.

“I was delighted to present Atomic Data with a plaque acknowledging them for their Platinum status and thanking them for their leadership,” added Wallace. “They are modeling the way companies can give back to the community, while strengthening the IT industry, investing in a pipeline of well-prepared technologists.

“I love watching our IT-Ready alumni interact with each other,” said Brennan. “They have truly become friends and look forward to seeing each other every year. Additionally, our newly established IT-Ready Alumni Board is excited to start bringing this dynamic group together on a regular basis.”

“We have a video loop that shows the faces of graduates and where they are currently working. One current student commented, ‘I can’t wait until I am up there next year with my employer’s name and job title.’”

Added IT-Ready alumni, Clifford Toh, “The IT-Ready program is leaving a footprint that will last well beyond our lifetime.”
