Information technology jobs promise family sustaining wages and upwardly mobile career paths -- yet the industry struggles to fill vacancies because of a continuing shortage of qualified applicants.

The Creating IT Futures Foundation, the philanthropic arm of CompTIA, has launched an intensive, short-term education and training program called the IT-Ready Apprentice Program. At the end of its inaugural year, 72 percent of graduates were working full-time in IT-related positions.
